Ruminate The Decluttering Game

We all deal with some amount of mess in our lives, but when the clutter gets too much for us and starts to impede on getting things we want to accomplish done, how do we get started with decluttering? Our game lets you experience the feeling of sorting through your items and discovering what matches most with the important things in your life (your “personality”):

  • Hobbies that you love participating in
  • Styles that express how you see yourself instead of what others want
  • Values that you hold dear and define who you are

The game includes 148 full-color cards and is designed for 2-4 players in a coop-a-tition rule set: being selfish isn’t the only way to earn points!

And when you feel inspired, included in the box are starter resources for getting on your way to decluttering in your own life:

  • An envisioning exercise that you can use to inspire and motivate you through the decluttering process
  • A guide that walks you through an exercise to define your own “personality” and gives you a project plan that you can check things off as you make progress

I’m interested: where can I play the game?

As of spring 2020, we’ve decided to stop developing the game further. It is entirely playable and a great deal of fun; we just have moved onto other projects.

  • We have a link to our Gamecrafter page where you can print a one-off copy of the game at cost at the first button below
  • If you’re interested in contacting the creators to either further development or produce the game yourself, please click the second button below

Our Story

Ruminate Games was formed during a class at Presidio Graduate School with the express purpose of tackling consumerism from the demand side. After brainstorming many different products and services which could help nudge consumers towards greater awareness, we combined Amy’s passion for board games with Eugene’s passion for lifestyle design to create a fun, social, and approachable way to learn the basics of decluttering through a board game.

This idea to empower consumers to make more informed choices continues in our latest projects. We are looking to create a different conversation about sustainability in our world that isn’t negative & boring, but instead entertaining, exciting, and authentic through comics, games, and other media.
